Dimitar Berbatov - The great Bulgarian Footballer

Berbatov

Ever wondered who some of the Bulgarian sporting greats are?

Bulgarian soccer is increasingly more popular, and with it, some of the rising Bulgarian soccer team.

Currently there is a Bulgarian footballer playing for Manchester City by the name of Dimitar Barbatov under the microscope of European soccer scouts. He is taken though, by a small little club in the North of England that produced greats such as David Beckham and Wayne Rooney. You may have heard of it in fact...? It's also known as Man U.

Dimitar Barbatov : Manchester United Striker

Height: 1.88m.

Weight: 79.00kg.

Nationality: Bulgaria

Born: 30/01/1981 in Blagoevgrad

The youngster originally started playing for his home town in Bladoevgrad, Bulgaria until he was poached by the bigger club of Sofia.

He then went to play for the German club of Bayer Leverjusen in 2001 - 2006 before moving on the the english premier league with Tottenham Hotspurs.

In 2007 a scout spotted the young Bulgarian striker and offered him a contract with Manchester United.

After much speculation, he completed a move to Manchester United on 1 September 2008 for a fee of around £30.75 million, with Fraizer Campbell joining Tottenham on a season-long loan as part of the deal.

This came despite Tottenham accepting a bid for Dimitar from Manchester City on the same day. His contract to United is for four years, and he will wear the number 9 shirt previously worn by Louis Saha. The 21 year old later insisted he never even considered a move to Manchester City.

He speaks highly of his team mates at Manchester United, even saying this about Paul Scholes "no one in the world can play like he does".

Dimitar remains one of the worlds most talented footballers today. At only 21 he has worlds of potential as a professional footballer.

His true talent is yet to be seen, but let's give him time yet.
