Bulgarian Mafia

Bulgarian mafia are amongst the most brutal mafia in the world.

Organized crime, corruption, links to the government and in particular - government officials. Bribes are rumoured not to be uncommon among Bulgaria's high ranking officials.

People want to know just how prevalent the Bulgarian mafia are in today's society.

The answer to that, in all honesty is something that no one knows exactly.

Organized crime spills into all aspects of today's life, particularly in a country where jobs are hard to find and crime pays.

Criminal activities may be dangerous, but they come with a certain level of prestige for a lot of young Bulgarian men with little education or prospects.

Bulgaria crime

Mafia men are men not to be triffled with, and men of unpredictable tempers.

In Bulgaria they are easy to spot, usually showing off at the beach with a jet ski, multiple large gold chains and a few women that are invoiced expenses in tow.

Also common to see are stab wounds if the show offs are shirtless (common on the Black Sea coast).

They will also usually be donning the persona of a street rapper who has just made it into the charts. (Picture the Slavic 50 Cent... That's right, you've got it..)

Are they dangerous? Probably not (for the average Joe, anyway). The likelyhood of you coming into close contact with a genuine Mafioso is pretty slim.

Generally the Mafia like to keep a low profile to the general public, and they certainly don't like to make any violent spectacles of themselves infront of tourists.

The underbelly of Bulgarian society will most likely be going about their corrupt ways under your nose and you should never (thankfully) come across it.

Happy hunting (although not literally we hope!).
