Bulgarian Money
Bulgarian Money Bulgarian money uses both the Euro (EUR) and the Lev (BGN).
Due to recent EU immigration, Bulgarian currency is still using both, however it is fastly sliding into the Euro.As a plus this is convenient for travellers wanting to pay in Euros. On the downside it's a little more expensive than paying in Bulgarian Lev.
The Lev is still the “official” currency, although many hoteliers and tourist areas are starting to use the Euro. A lot of business owners are attempting to capitalize on exchange rates by taking the Euro in payment, and still paying their staff and costs in Leva. There is a sizable difference in profits for owners, and this makes life even harder for the average person living in Bulgaria.Standards of living suddenly become more expensive to buy in Bulgaria. Generally you will get around 2.4 times your pound, and 1.95 your Euro. A cup of coffee that was previously 1 Leva is now priced at 1 Euro in most of your smaller towns towards the coast. Tourist havens such as Sunny Beach for example, can fetch up to 3.50 for the same thing. Sunny Beach and other tourist towns on the Black Sea Coast are a prime spot to visit to get a tan in Summer.
