Where is Bulgaria?

Where is Bulgaria?

The Republic of Bulgaria lies in southern Europe, to the west of the Black Sea.

It is bordered by five other countries: Romania to the north, Greece and Turkey to the south, and Serbia and Macedonia to the west.

Bulgaria is located deep in the Balkans, an area known as the Balkan Peninsula.

This is a mountainous region that takes its name from the Balkan Mountains and it is bordered by water on all sides.

To the west lies the Adriatic Sea; to the south is the Mediterranean Sea; the Black Sea coast is to the east; and the Danube, Kupa and Sava Rivers follow the northern boundary.

Bulgaria is not the only country to lie within the Balkans.

As well as its neighbours, Greece and Macedonia, Bosnia, Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania and Kosovo also fall entirely within the Balkan Peninsula.

Because Bulgaria lies within Europe, the country is easily accessible via a variety of different transportation methods.

Bulgaria air Flights to and from Sofia are easily available from most European airports and most of the major European carriers serve Bulgaria on a daily basis.

It is also possible to find flights to some of the smaller regional airports.

It is even possible to travel to Bulgaria by road, rail and water if flying is not an option.

By road, visitors can enter Bulgaria through Greece, Romania, Turkey, Serbia and Macedonia. Travel via rail is exceptionally easy as there are frequent services between Sofia and Budapest, Belgrade, Istanbul, Bucharest and Thessaloniki.

Connections can also be made with cities further away including Paris, Berlin and Vienna.

Bulgaria’s location deep in the heart of the Balkans gives the country an enviable reputation as a holiday with a difference.

Modern cities full of vibrant nightlife and cosmopolitan colour bear sharp contrast with sleepy villages steeped in centuries of folklore and tradition, which is one of the many reasons

Bulgaria is such an intriguing place to visit, whether you are seeking a blue sky holiday on the Black Sea coast or a skiing break in one of the top-class ski resorts.
