Getting there - Bulgaria air travel, bus and train



Bulgaria air lines to travel to Bulgaria is easy from many destinations throughout Europe. With the addition of low-cost airlines in recent years you can travel to Bulgaria pretty cheaply, too!

A holiday in Bulgaria is an untouched experience.

You can arrive by air, train or bus.

You will find trains and buses to take you around the country if you prefer not to hire a car.

Bulgaria Air Travel

You can fly straight into Sofia (the capital) from the UK, and there are 5 different airports to arrive into.If you prefer there is also a bus station in Sofia and Varna to travel to Bulgaria and around the country. Sofia International Airport - Sofia is the capital and the largest airport in Bulgaria.

You can travel to Bulgaria with the following airlines:

Wizz Air, Bulgaria Air, Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, Air France, Hungarian Airlines, Easyjet Czech Airlines, Taro, Olympic, Agean, Turkish airlines all fly into Sofia on a daily basis.


Train

There is a London to Sofia route. It's not difficult to travel to Bulgaria by train, in fact it's safe, comfortable and a very interesting journey. The journey from London to Bulgaria takes two nights, using Eurostar to Brussels and a connecting Thalys high-speed train to Cologne, the excellent overnight "City Night Line" sleeper train from Cologne to Vienna, and either a direct sleeping car from Vienna to Sofia via Belgrade or a direct sleeping-car from Budapest to Sofia via Romania.


Bus Travel

Eurolines offers a coach service from Victoria Coach Station, London to Sofia. Also bus services travel daily from Istanbul, Athens and Thessaloniki to Sofia.

Crossing the Bulgarian border by bus or coach can be subject to long delays, while passports are checked and some inspected.


Buses, both public and private, provide an excellent network throughout the country, being both cheap and convenient. Minibuses often serve shorter distances between neighbouring towns, and trolleybuses can be found in some larger towns and cities urban use.
