Life in Bulgaria
For many people, the quality of life in Bulgaria is the reason why they choose to sell up and move there. It has a great deal to offer, both to those searching for a new life away from the high cost of living that blights many other European countries, and for those who are simply after a cheap holiday somewhere unspoilt. As a holiday destination, Bulgaria is cheap, culturally fascinating, and stunningly beautiful. From the eclectic mix of ancient and modern architecture in Sofia, to the tranquility of the resorts lying along the Black Sea coast, Bulgaria has something to appeal to everyone. One of the main benefits of Bulgaria is the fact your money goes a lot further than it does elsewhere. Bulgaria has yet to become part of the Euro, and therefore prices are relatively low compared to other countries. The Bulgarian people are on the whole very friendly and welcoming to visitors and ex pats alike. Wherever you travel in Bulgaria, you can expect a warm welcome and plenty of hospitality. Most of the younger people speak English, so you should have no major problems with communication unless you travel into the more remote areas where they will most likely communicate in Bulgarian and write in the Cyrillic alphabet. City life in Bulgaria is fast paced and very cosmopolitan. The bigger cities like Sofia and Varna have stylish restaurants, trendy bars, chic nightclubs, as well as theatres, cinemas, and concert halls. If you venture away from the busy cities and costal resorts, you will find that the pace of life invariably slows down to a trickle. Life out in the rural regions has, in many cases, barely been dragged kicking and screaming into the 20th century, let alone the 21st century, but for some visitors, this is exactly what draws them to Bulgaria—it is the taste of a different way of life that appeals. Everyday life in Bulgaria is generally very relaxed. However, for those who choose to buy a second home or even move to Bulgaria permanently, there are a few negatives to take into consideration, namely that the levels of bureaucracy required for even the simplest of tasks can be nightmarish and the legal system tends to be slow and rather corrupt. Bulgaria can offer a multitude of exciting possibilities and opportunities for both business and leisure, but whether you choose to come to Bulgaria for a weekend break, or even a lifetime, you will soon fall in love with this amazing country.
