Cost of Living: Prices in Bulgaria

Prices in Bulgaria are reasonable, to say the least.

You will find yourself able to get by on a pretty meagre budget. For around £7-£10 (approx 10-12 Euros) you will get yourself fed for the day.

Double that budget and you'll have a delicious meal in a large city in a great restuarant.

Triple it and you'll be whistling dixie at every night club in Bulgaria!

Prices in Bulgaria - Money

The average monthly salaries in Bulgaria range from around 150 – 200 Euros.

Basic Costs

A bottle of water - 0.50 Stotinki - or half a Lev (equals approx £0.10 pence)

(Water in Bulgaria is both safe and clean to drink. In villages it tastes especially good too! Mineral water is still sold in most places, although you will be fine with tap water.

Breakfast in an ordinary restaurant costs about 4 leva (approx. £2 )Dinner will cost around 10 leva (approx. £4), and supper - around 15 leva (approx. £4.50).

Anyone who likes to eat out will find that other than the really touristy restaurants in the main resorts, a decent three course meal in a local restaurant can cost as little as GBP 8 – 10 a head.

Wine is available from GBP 3 a bottle – and the wine is good at that price rather than like vinegar!

And beer monsters will be happy to learn that in most bars their favourite tipple is for sale from as little as GBP 0.40 a pint.

Beer, locally brewed (33cl bottle of beer: 0.90 leva (approx. £0.40) and imported is very popular.

You have a selection of Kamanitza, Shumensko, Zargorka or Tuborg to choose from. Trust me, these beers are incredably good!

What you will find on the menu is another thing entirely. Forget the usual touristy types of food. This is another thing entirely!

Tea and coffee is offered everywhere in the country. Tea is generally not drunk unless you're sick.

Normal coffee is served the Turkish way and boy, is it strong! It will certainly wake you up. Tea and coffee normally costs about £0.10 pence.

Standard soft drinks like Coca-Cola, Pepsi, and Bulgarian drinks can be found in every food or specialised shop.

Bulgaria uses both the Euro and the Leva. Find out why.....

Overall prices in Bulgaria are cheap. You will probably spend less in a week here than you would at home!
